Mount .iso as cdrom?

I have an .iso file of this real-time strategy game named 1602 A.D. I am able to install it using wine, but when I try to play the game it wants me to insert the original cd. I can't burn the .iso on a cd because this laptop's disk drive won't work. I've mounted the .iso and tried to play it in the mounted .iso, I wrote the .iso to a usb stick and tried to play it that way but nothing will work. So I was wondering if its possible to mount the .iso file or the usb stick in such a way that the program will think its a cdrom.

Some of these games had copy protection as follows: There would be some known file accessed by the cdrom driver (To make sure you had the cdrom in the drive) and there sometimes even was copy protection worked onto these so that a disk burned copy would not work either. My kids had one game worked out where they could insert a disk, start one pc, and go online. The other would promptly grab the disk start another pc and go online, and they could play as a team :-P. But if they started the game with no cd, they were kicked out. and occasionally it would demand a cd, so that meant a quick run to the next room.

I suggest: If at first you don't succeed - give up! :-).

I found out that the game is looking for the cd at drive Z:

Is there a way I can point wine drive Z: to the files?

Apologies for stating the obvious, but one solution is to buy an external disc drive. It could be used for much more than just the one game CD. So unless they are expensive where you live, it would be a good investment.

See this. http://scarah-rosenschvitz.blogspot....in-ubuntu.html

Yes, you should be able to mount cd to different drive. I think it is a dos command or maybe config in wine. I don't have the exact method right now but let me search a bit for it. I know I have seen this issue before. I assume WineHQ forums would have it or wine documentation.

True, many game disks have some odd tricks that prevents easy iso image creation.
