Mount a mac disk???

I am using RH 9.0 and trying to mount a 1.0 MB double sided double density disk that I think was written by a mac possibly an apple II.
I try to mount by using the -t hfs option but I get the following error.
floppy0: probe failed...
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
hfs_fs: unable to read block 0x00000000 from dev 02:00
hfs_fs: Unable to read block 0.

How do I get this to work?

I do believe that it has no idea what that "mac" disk is
but then I could be wrong as I usually am

The hfs filesystem is not present in your /etc/filesystems file. If you have it on your system, then you may need to log in as root, modprobe hfs and then mount the disk. There are also utilities as part of the hfsutils that should help you out... things like hmount, hls, etc.

Am i right in thinking that it's not possible as Apple were clever enough to use variable speed in their drives, which IBM wasn't, so it's mechanically not possible to read them?
