Monitoring System Performance
I have been advised this morning that our new Linux server suffered poor performance and as a result a lot of overnight stuff was unable to process.
All overnight processes are using a third party application to process datafiles and then ftp them to a distribution server to be sent out to clients machines.
Last night this seemed to take a few hours longer than normal. The machine has been up for 14 days and I really don't want to reboot it.
Does anyone know how I can start to investigate the cause. 'messages' doesn't show anything and the FTP logs appear to be fine. If the memory had filled up of the system load been too high then I am sure that this would of been displayed in /var/log/messages.
Does anyone have any tips for monitoring system perfomace?
