Momonga / USB stick.

Hello,

Has anyone been able to install Momonga on a USB flash memory ?

I have tried, but failed.

If someone has been successful, please let me know how you do.

Thanks for any help.

so others know what you did, can you name the exact version of your distro
eg
Momonga-4.1-LiveCD-desktop-i686.iso
Momonga-4.1-KDE-i686.iso

2) according to http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=Momonga

the install system likes ext3.

did you format your usb as a ext3?

did your distro above have ext3 builtin to the kernel, or
did it use an initrd?

3) what steps in summary form....did you follow so others may see (hopefully) where to help?

oh forgot to mention....some usbs need special kernel modules or compiles

please name the exact make mode of your usb pls.

I can search my vanilla kernel to see if you need anything special.

Hi,

I used Momonga-4.1-LiveCD-desktop-i686.iso for this.

Here is the related section in menu.lst (the GRUB configuration file) :
title=Momonga
root (hd0,4)
kernel /vmlinuz ro quiet root=CDLABEL=Mo4-LiveCD-desk-i686-02241214 rootfstype=iso9660 liveimg
initrd /initrd.img

Since I have used the same USB key with other live-cd distributions, I know there no special problem with that type of flash memory.

On the other hand, I have no confidence concerning the parameters passed to the kernel. I just copied them from the iso; they might not be the ones appropriate for a USB key.

you are right...fs can not be iso9660 on an usb stick.

so I ask again, from pst 3.....did you format usb as ext3.....as distrowatch suggests that is the native format this distro likes?

Actually I was using ext2 to format the USB stick.

I then reformatted using the ext3 format, following your suggestion.
It did not work keeping this :
kernel /vmlinuz ro quiet root=CDLABEL=Mo4-LiveCD-desk-i686-02241214 rootfstype=iso9660 liveimg
But it worked with that :
kernel /vmlinuz ro quiet root=/dev/sda5 rootfstype=ext3 liveimg

Thanks for your tip.

The only unclean thing is when I get out of X I find this message :
** (gnome-panel:3489): WARNING **: Failed to authenticate with GDM
Window manager warning: CurrentTime used to choose focus window; focus
window may not be correct.
Window manager warning: Got a request to focus the no_focus_window with
a timestamp of 0. This shouldn't happen!

waiting for X server to shut down

well thats a start.

boot your normal system...mount the usb and edit the usb to correct that kernel line pls.

2) go into /etc/inittab for the usb....edit init to runlevel 3 or 3

3) reboot to usb and see what new warnings await us
