modem driver installation

Have just installed Mandrake 8.1. I am a COMPLETE novice. I have dowloaded a driver for my modem, how do I install it. I burned it on to a CD-R and have no idea of how to acces the CD or Floppy.

I am sure these are very simple tasks but having been a slave to Mr. Gates for so long I aam finding the change a little daunting.

If I can access the internet through Linux I am sure that perseverance will carry me through to become an adept user.

Any help woould be grateful

First you need to tell us what type of modem it is and what type of file you downloaded, .rpm or .tar.gz.

My Modem is a PCI, Intel HaM 56K Modem. The driver I downloaded was in .tar format although I have extracted it to CD-Rom.
