solved my prob...

/dev/hda1 /mnt/win vfat user,umask=222 00

this gives you read only access to your win partition....

umask=000 (this gives you full write access to the drive/win partition)

umask=022 (only root has full write access to the drive/win partition)

To reiterate, the last two zeros are not part of the umask=. They are there to control the action of fsck during startup, and, essentially, tell fsck to ignore the drive. (Almost all your drives except / and /boot should have the "0 0" at the end unless you're doing something complicated.

See info fstab for details.
