missing libstdc++.so.2.8

Hi there everyone.

I am trying to install a signalling daemon, It's job is to shut down the computer when it is on UPS (battery) power for 5 minutes.

The command to start the daemon: (on MandrakeSecurity MNF, linux kernel 2.4.18-8.1mdksecure)

Code:
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/apcssd start
Starting APC Simple Signalling Daemon: ssd: error while loading shared libraries:
libstdc++.so.2.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have installed the following packages:
- gcc-c++-2.96-0.76mdk.i586.rpm
- libstdc++2.10-devel-2.96-0.76mdk.i586.rpm
- libstdc++2.10-2.96-0.76mdk.i586.rpm
and earlier,
- gcc-cpp-2.96-0.76mdk.i586.rpm
- gcc-2.96-0.76mdk.i586.rpm
- libgcc3.0-3.0.4-2mdk.i586.rpm

and the result of cd /usr/lib then ls | grep libstd
Code:
libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.a
libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so*
libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2@
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.a.3@
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3@
I don't get it, I thought the file libstdc++.so.2.8 was included in the libstdc++ package(s). Where can i get this file, JUST THE FILE not a package, so I can put it in my /usr/lib directory so I can run the daemon.

Thank you.

Did you try to just symlink the newer library to
the old name?

Question

what newer library? I thought libc was a separate library altogether.

I could link one, if you tell me how

You haven't listed libc, though, have you? :)

It's just a funny naming that tells you that
this libstdc++ was built against such and such
libc ...

Cheers,
Tink

Ok thanks... can you give me more details on how I can get this daemon working? Like what do I type in to symlink.

Thank you.

Maybe the question I want to ask is, if the names are different, which is the true file libstdc++.so.2.8

So that I can make a copy and rename the copy to libstdc++.so.2.8? So that my daemon will run?
