This is a wierd problem --- the minimize window button is no longer working in KDE 3.3. This applies only to my account --- not to other accounts on this box. A right click on the title bar of the window shows a greyed out reference to "minimize". I have no idea what I have done and for the life of me, I cannot find where to put this right.
You could try deleting your .kde files at your /root directory to see if that helps. However, you should not start the Xserver as root... well, ever . Always use "su" when you need to change some file or use sudo to give extra permissions to ordinary users.
Yes....that is what I had to do in the end BUT not in /root. The problem was with the minimize button and my account on this box. Start xserver as root? *shudder*
