Microsoft "Secure Authentication" on Linux?

I have decided to go back to school, and the University of Phoenix uses NNTP with Microsoft "secure authentication", which they say is microsoft's precursor to SSL. Does anyone know of any NNTP Newsreaders out there that support Microsoft "secure authentication"? I really don't want to have ot use Outlook Express :-(.

Thanks in advance,

Dan
