Microsoft Project Manager counterpart

I'm searching for some software for my ubuntu distro that rivals Microsoft's Project Manager. If it can use the Project Manager save files it would be a plus. I need it for one of my classes and I figure why not help me learn more with linux by trying to use it for all my tasks I need to occomplish.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Take a look at 'planner' - it doesn't have *all* the bells & whistles of Project Manager (such as database); but you can import MS Project xml files.

Its probably on the Ubuntu cd.
