Microsoft EULA in Ubuntu Update

I just ran an update on by Ubuntu 10.10 laptop.

Imagine my surprise with a Microsoft EULA popped up for something called Microsoft TTFCoreFonts.

I declined.

I already have sufficient fonts.

Those fonts can be useful if you want to create content that is shared on Linux and Microsoft platforms. (word processing, web pages, etc.) I always thought it was nice of Microsoft to share those fonts. Even a bad guy can act nice sometimes.

I can see that utility.

I have in the past been know to stick TTF fonts from my Windows machines into /usr/share/fonts/truetype because I was still learning and because I could.

Since those days, the quality of available native Linux fonts has improved significantly.

I still question Ubuntu's wisdom in sticking them in an automatic update after all these years.

microsoft eula on ubuntu upgrades/dates

By agreeing to this, just what does this have implications for. Has anyone looked at the small print to see if it goes any further than just what is mentioned, if only infered?

Fred.
