Hi,
This is for KDE4 only.
You are new, or not, to KDE and always loved the feature that displays the meta data EXIF/ID3 information within the file manager you used to use?
Like seeing the picture's dimensions? Audio Codec? Video Codec? Resolution? Format of file, number of lines, words, characters, etc...
Well there is a problem at the moment if you use Dolphin in KDE4.3+ and I highly encourage everyone to at least vote and comment the bug at kde.bugs. This will help KDE Dolphin developer to work on the issue (that's what he said). The function was there in KDE4.2 and almost ready and complete, but in 4.3, they changed the design of the backend and the feature is a lot more complex to have and does not work well.
This link gives you screenshots of the feature (from the KDE dev's blogspot):

The problem is with nepomuk and strigi. You need to have both running and perfectly running, if you miss libs or something it won't work. And I am not even sure if it can 100% work for all files, I need to test, but so far other people tried and it's not looking good. Strigi slows down a lot some machines and logically speaking, why indexing all files just to show picture dimensions? They agreed on that at KDE bug.
Plz vote and comment the bug on KDE to help get back this information.
It is like that for all distros (unless one of them decides to create a small application that would do the job in the backend).
To have the info within the ToolTip is a possibility (that I prefer), but it's not in 4.3 yet, supposed to be in 4.4 but I don't see it part of the features list, so I don't know if it will. The tooltip does not use nepomuk and strigi to get meta data info.
So if you were wondering what happened between KDE4.2 and KDE4.3 and how to get the meta data information, I believe you have all information in the links I provided above.
tnx for your help!
