Memory Upgrade causes PROBLEMS

A system I have received an upgrade of memory, the odd mix of three 64 MB sdrams were removed and one single 256 MB was inserted. As a result, the system diagnostics sees the memory and so does Bill Gates. How come now this system is un-bootable?

The only message (negative) during startup is now the volumes are mysteriously ‘read-only’. Shortly toward the end of the boot, the system hangs and behaves like a pathetic W machine.

Any ideas, Thanks in Advance
