Member of local and remote group at the same time?

I'm running Gentoo, and after alot of pain I managed to make it use a ldapserver for userauth.
But the thing is that to be able to play games etc I need to be in a group called games.
Is it possible and how (links are welcome) for a (ldap)user to be a member of both local and ldap groups?

I'm sure there isn't any problems but since your on a network between machines, why not just create the base groups across the network?

After some research I've found out that the solution may be in PAM. By using the pam_group and configuring the /etc/security/group.conf file I might be able to fix this.
But if someone can give me a lead on how to actually do this I would be very happy :)
Google haven't come up with the correct answer yet....

What distro and why not create the same groups/users across all systems, with same ID's?
