Mandrake on a Dell Inspiron 2600?

Anyone ever do it? I installed Mandrake, but X wouldn't start unless I chose 16bit colors. But after I started it, the resolution was HUGE. It was so bad, I couldn't stand it. And it wouldn't change. Anyone know why? The graphics chip is an Intel 830.

First thing I'd do is

su
vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
hit "i"

If it can't locate the file, do

updatedb
locate XF86Config*

Go to the end and remove smaller resolutions such as

600x480

leaving the desired one at the beginning.

hit ESC, type ":wq"
reboot

If nothing changed, you might have to reinstall with another X, like 3.3.6.
