Mandrake 9.0 Help!!

Mandrake 9.0 Questions:

I just installed Mandrake 9.0: some questions on how to get things to work >
(1).I have an external hard drive and a external DVD Rom hooked up via my Audigy Firewire connector. How do I mount these devices? In the Mandrake Control Center > Hardware section > both devices are listed there as follows:
DVD > Liteon > /dev/scd1
Hard drive > /dev/sda
I tried mounting the devices thru the Control Center.
In the Hardware listings for the hard drive I saw the following listed for the hard drive:
Old Device file: /dev/sda
New devfs device: scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
There was a similar listing for the dvd rom also.
How do I mount the hard drive with the above info?
Do I have to edit /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab?
(2). Using Xine > the path to the dvd rom > default is /dev/dvd.Do I put in the new devfs device path for that?
(3).Parallel Port Scanner > HP Scanjet 3200C > In the Control Center > I used the Scanner configuration utility > selected my scanner > start xsane > no device found.I have been trying to get this to work in Mandrake 8.2> From the info I gathered I guess I need to get PPSCSI low level drivers to work.Read that the UMAX_pp(?)file was the one I needed to use.
How do I get this to work? I've no success in 8.2 either > get confused on trying to get the ppscsi drivers/module(?) to work and what config file needs to be edited > what needs to be put in the /etc/modules.config file.
Any help will be appreciated.
