I brought a mandrake 7.0 manual and o/s, I partitioned win 98se and installed mandrake.. the manual said i could set it to boot in windows automatically so it would appear as tho there was only one o/s.
Everytime I boot up it starts in linux and gives me 5 secs to swap to windows. Now im stuck I cant find where to make it boot in windows at all (makes it impossible for the kids to use win 98 without supervision to get them started).
Can I make it boot under windows like the manual professes or have I been had ????
Login as root
issue the following commands
# cd /etc
#vi lilo.conf
got o the line where its return linux
press 'i'
change linux to windows (or the label specified in 'other' option)
Press Esc
type ":wq" (without quotes)
#lilo
#reboot
ok whole new set of problems... and yes im very new to this.
I cant get a screen resolution to work all the icons are huggge so i cant alter any settings as it runs out of room.
Anything i try it gives me the same error msg....16bpp is not supported by this chipset ( i have a Intel 810).
Failing all of this im starting to think about reformatting the drive linux is on and starting again.. how do i do this?
you should check at the www.mandrake.com to find whether 16bpp is supported in Mandrake 7.0 on Intel 810 As far as i remember it does not yuo have to have atleast Mandrake7.2 to run well on Intel 810 . Better check out and try to get a newer version of Linux if you want to use it for desktop use
I have the same problem, trying to get Mandrake 9.0...can't download to very slow connection...they have 8.2 at Staples, should I wait for 9.0 (though I don't want to ) or can I get it any other store?
I have 7.2 now but as it was said it's 2 years old, and I'm a noob.
Well you can get use Mandrake 8.2 it won't be hard but if your hardware is very new you may get the same problem. I used C-media on board sound card on a Asus p4b533-m and 8.2 did not detect it . Mandrake 9.0 did. So if you devices are about 6months-year old or more Mandrake 8.2 will run just fine
ok, the only thing is if you know if the install for Mandrake 8.2 recognizes an winxp NTFS partition (lilo or grup)...with 7.2 it didn't recognize it and would not put is as an option under Grub.
i tried it with 9 as u said and everything has gone haywire prolly my fault entirely
Im left with a reformatted repartitioned hard drive with nothing on it and can not load a new o/s as it will not boot any bootable disk from the cd rom it will boot from a floppy but will not kick thru to the cd rom for cd support.
MY linux days are over and so are my windows ones by the looks
thanks to everyone for all ur help over the last few days... time to find a windows help forum
