Mandrake 10.1 freezes about 5 minutes...

I have a strange problem with Mandrake Linux 10.1 Community Edition. Every time I start, after logging in (X has started and the Nvidia splash screen has been shown. After that the login screen comes up.), the systems pauses for about 5 minutes. After that it continues to load. Any idea why? Sometimes this does not happen, but if it dont, the systems seems prone to locking up. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will return to the promt but after 5 minutes it loads the login screen. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Yes, you probably have a problem with the powermanagement options; play around with them. My friend had this problem with the NVidia chipset on his motherboard. Type drakconf-->Boot-->Boot Loader, and tell me what boxes you have checked.

Here is all the info on that menu : (This is roughly translated from my swedish version, so it might sound a bit wrong).

Bootmanager to use : Lilo with graphical menu

Boot unit : /dev/hda

Delay until... : 10

Activate ACPI : Not checked

Force no APIC : Not checked

Force no local APIC : Not checked

And after I pressed the "Advanced" button this appeared :

Clean /tmp on every boot : Not checked

Amount of RAM (if necessary) (found 256 mb) : Nothing

If there are other things I should check, tell me. This is all info that was on that page.

I have the first checked and the other two not checked, and mine is stable. I can ask my friend what he has checked, but try what I have first. Make sure to reboot because you're editing a LILO boot option.

*crosses fingers*

Sorry it took so long, but he hasn't been at his computer lately.. he has ONLY the third one checked: Force no local APIC.

Hope it works...

there was a bug that when i accesed home or any other directory it hanged

the solution is to edit /etc/hosts and add ur host name at the end
here is mine :

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost linux

then edit /etc/rc.sysinit and change HOSTNAME=localhost to HOSTNAME=<ur hostname>
mine is HOSTNAME=linux

Sorry, didn't work either. It seems to have to do with something else.
