Making it so users can ftp into there Public_html folder


Does anyone know any good sites that whould explain to me how to setup my linux box so that users could ftp in an they would appear in the public_html folder.

Create user and then you can either make their home directory their public_html folder or you can just edit your apache configs to just use /home/<username> is their public_html to place their html files in for viewing on the site.

You can also limit their shell access by giving them a false shell like /bin/false and then adding that to your /etc/shells file. This will prevent them from having any other actual shell access thru like ssh or telnet, etc.

If you don't want them to browse any other directories, you can chroot them to their home directory as well.
