Making a customized RPM based live CD

Hi.

I need to make a live-CD for disaster recovery purposes, and thought I'd just add the necessary files/packages to an allready existing live CD. The recovery software is RPM based, so I figure I should use an RPM based live CD.

The aims is to have a live CD I can boot from to get the recovery software up and running, and then point this software to the correct backups (i.e. servers/paths). The CD should be as generic as possible so that it can be used to recover arbitrary machines.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there any easy-to-use open source software I use for?

..and thought I'd give that a try first. Appears to be a fine tool for creating Live CDs. Just hope it installs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, which I'm running (I've started a thread on this).

Another option is the ADIOS Project, see their Howto build live CD or DVD.

I just found out that the informit-link I posted before assumes that one is running Fedora. There doesn't yet seem to be any RPMs for RHEL. :/

Doesn't the ADIOS howto also assume that one is running Fedora?

Solution

Ended up making the live CD by following the instructions found here: http://www.byteclub.net/wiki/CentOS_Live

Seems we got thing up and running, but need to do some more testing.

Fedora and RHEL share lineage and methods for one in general should work with the other.
Good to see you got things going.
