make is missing

I'm trying to compile some new programs on my recently installed Mandrake distro but the make command doesn't work. It says that there is no such command. is there some way to reinstall it??

Thanks.

Yes, you can install the automake rpm from one of your cd's.

I tried to RPM the automake but it still can't find the make command, is there something else I need to do?

Boot from your mandrake cd and select "expert upgrade" and install all the development packages.

I had that problem in the beginning when my users didn't have enough permission. This could be if you are makeing as a user. Root should easily be able to do it.

you can do a

rpm -qa | make

I have two...

make & automake...

if you have make.. then do a:

rpm -ql make

and see where the make file is... then find out why it is not in your path.
