Mail Server Question

I was reading this article on how to setup a mail server. http://www.linux.com/enhance/newsit...id=93&aid=12500

Now I have never setup a mail server before, but I always assumed that sendmail was the mail server. I am correct on that? This article has about 5 or 6 source files that need to be compiled. What do they do that sendmail does not do? Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

TIA - Jase

Yes, sendmail is a mailserver.
If you reread the preface and introduction pieces the rest of your questions should be answered, its all in there.
