"mail" cmd can't send mail to outside MX

Hello there,

Not sure exactly where I should post this question regarding the "mail" command. Here goes.....

I am running SuSE 9 Enterprise, and need to send email as a text message to our cell phones. I can send email to our internal Exchange server, and view it on Outlook, but I CAN'T send email to an external MX server as a text message.

Here's what works:

mail -s "this is a message for Outlook" user1@questar.com

Here's what doesn't work:

mail -s "this is a message for Cingular" 8015805555@mobile.mycingular.com

I'm not getting alot of help from my Exchange guys. Are there logs that get generated on linux from the "mail" command? Any ideas why I can't send email outside the firewall to an MX server?

Thanks in advance

Do you know what the error message is?

Usually when an email can't be sent you get an email telling you why. Typing just "mail" in the command line will open up the mail program. Check to see if you've gotten some sort of error message...
