Macbook Pro...

Well, I finaly bit the bullet and bought a mac. i got the best of the best. the new macbook pro with 2.16 ghz intel processor, 2 gb ram, and 120 gb hdd. i got it to help me through college mostly. i cant wait for it to get here

this will probably be one of my last posts on this site. :( but i may come back later for questions about my other computer.

anyway, i want to know, for future referance, if there are any distros yet with support for the new intel cor duo processor on a mac. i know some distros like gentoo had a mac version before but will there be new versions with support for intel?

also... this is the best help forum i've ever found on the web anywhere. is there an equivelant to this site that is geared towards macs?

i don't know, although you could dual boot linux and mac on it if you wanted

any standard distro for x86 processors runs on a mac with a core duo

you only need special versions for powerpc based macs

cool. thats kind of what i was hoping. i may dual boot sometime down the road.

thats the advantage of them using a standard x86 processor

Two questions:

1- When downloading a distro, say Ubuntu, do you have to download the ppc or i368 iso?
2- I hear a lot of complains about annoying problems with the MacBook Pro, does the normal MacBook suffer the same problems?

i386 distro, because it's a standard x86 (intel/amd) processor

I don't know about problems, i've not worked with the intel macs
