Lucent Winmodem not recognized


I just installed Open SuSe 10 ,and I think I like it but
It does not recognize my modem .I am using a Dial-up connection and the
modem characteristics are : Lucent-WinModem - Driver V.8.18.0 (21-12-'01)
Pc Chipset SiS 651 - IRQ 19 - Memory ED104000-ED104OFF - Port DC00-DC07
Bus 0 Device 8 Function 0 AT&T LT winmodem
Network protocol: TCP/IP Framing PPP . Servers: POP3 /SMTP .
Is any way I can connect to the Interner using UBUNTU with dial-up ?
I am gratefull if someone can help . Thanks Luccek

It is likely that winmodems wont work on linux. There are external serial modems that will work. Also if in the US or any modern country you should go for dsl. Its time to join the 21 century.

(Some) winmodems do work. Go to linmodemsDOTcom for details.

A lot of people still wish they could. DSL only goes 1700 feet(?) from the telco switchbox, so lots of us out in the country remain on dialup. Wireless is coming this way, some day...
