LTSP with Windows Clients?
 

I have seen a bunch of threads on the listings with the subject of using a Linux box (diskless or otherwise) to access a Windows Terminal Server or some such configuration.

I guess I am backwards in my thinking but:

I have a series of Windows desktop computers in the office and I am slowly beginning to convert from Windows to an LTSP based computer system.

The jump has to be semi-gradual because of the mass of data that we have on the Windows based machines.

Can someone tell me how to get a "client terminal" operational for the LTSP box, so that the client has access to the existing data / programs on their local hard disk drive and still be a functional LTSP client (not a diskless client running Linux).

Currently, I have three desktops running Tight-VNC, and it is operational, but not optimum by any means... no direct data transfer (cut and paste) and also no system sound.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Both VNC and the X-Window protocol handle displays/graphics, but not sound. I believe that copy-and-paste can work, although it requires both the client and the server to work together - you could try using UltraVNC as the client and/or x11vnc on the server. NX (www.nomachine.com) may be much more capable than either VNC or X - I haven't tried it.

Safeware which sort of made their own version of ltsp had it set up where you could access the system via a web client. If you can get a deo version of it, you could set it up and figure out how it was done. think it was some kind javavnc client for the browser, Not sure.
