ls command with numbers?


is there a way to get ls to display the file permissions in number format? (like the way you type them into chmod) iv looked around but don't see how, i just cant seem to understand the letters, its hard and long, numbers are short and understandable

ill take that as you cant set up ls to display numbers instead of letters?...
