Today I installed Linux to a box that only has a TV-output... PAL (old 'n crappy TV, old 'n crappy PC). The problem is: high resolutions are unreadable, and low resolutions cut-off the bottom of most dialogs. This problem I also have with windows. On windows I can counter that by installing the 'magnifying glass' help. But either way I prefer to set the resolution to native PAL (576x432 I believe), and was hoping there might be a typical installation/dm/wm for this purpose. I was also thinking such wm's must have been made for mobile devices.
Please let me know, if you have any experience.

what kind of video card do you have? ATI? Nvidia?
Do you have the proprietary drivers Installed?
either way what you are looking for is 'overscan' correction

Thanks for your help, but the things you mention aren't a problem. I have output with the proprietary legacy drivers of NVIDIA. The problem is: most programs (including the WM and DM) are designed for displays with higher resolutions. Most dialogs I get on screen are far over 640 pixels in height.
