Lotus Notes

Anybody running Lotus note on linux yet?

trickykid 10-28-2001 10:20 PM

well, i am not running it yet or ever tried, but i went to their site to check it out, i was selecting what version, and it does an automatic page refresh, and in konqueror browser, i got errors. hit backspace and it was still selected so i checked the platform to select linux, gave another error and both were about invalid platform or version.
i then loaded it up in mozilla and it worked fine with no errors... hmmm.. i guess ibm doesn't like the konqeror browser or something, anyone else come across this.

They say it will run on wine, I have version 5.0.8

I guess I will try it.

I am desperatly trying to get the Notes Domino Server 5.0.5 working on my Red Hat 8 server. I appears as though Red Hat 7.2 was the last time anyone tried this, if the google searches I've done are any indication. Has anyone tried Notes on Linux?? Help..

Dave, are you talking Domino Server?
Or trying to run a client in Linux? I've
been bugging Lotus for weeks to get
a statement about plans for a native Linux
client ;)

Cheers,
Tink

I am talking about the client, I did get it working on a system with wine. However I do not use it anymore and it was an older version(4.6)

The main problem with getting help with this is that the software is not free and most people probably don't have it. I was under the impression that they do have a version for linux.

One can get the Domino server for Linux,
no native clients, though :( ...

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: I still have a full Notes 4.52 (server & 5 client
licenses) for OS/2 at home ;)

I've got the win client working fine under RH8 - I think it's a bit of a hit or a miss with some people, though. Check this out:

I've got a good reference which I'll post if:

1. I can find it
2. There's interest...

Lotus Notes on Linux (Wine)

Yes, I had it working one, I guess that was version 5.05 or so. And it worked LIKE A CHARM.
That was under SuSe 7.3 and the codeweavers that comes with it.
It run notes from another partition (vfat), so sharing of data with the Windoze partition was possible. Now that I struggle to get it working again, I remember how GREAT it was working then, since it is not at all working now :-(

anyway, people that do want to run Notes on Linux should check out crossoffice at www.codeweavers.com
It is commercial, but a demo is available and IT WORKS.
Only on a fake wine partition, but at least it works, and does not take much configuring to get there neither.

Does not solve my problem, tough. So I will have to drag on and fight, sure to celebrate the day when I can spend more time on the linux partition than on the windows partition (because I need Notes for my work).

Cheers

Markus

P.S. I heard something about links or references about how to get it working? Please do post them!

browny_amiga 05-14-2003 02:35 AM

IT WORKS!! Lotus Notes on RH9

Yes, I just go it working.
Lotus Notes R5.012 on Redhat 9 with codeweavers-wine 20020904-7

If somebody wants to know details, I'll post them gladly.

A long fight has ended!!! Finally no more Windows on my laptop.

Cheers

Markus

Yes please. Lotus notes is the only reason I am not completely windows free, having just sucessfully set up Novel Client for Linux. Please tell us how you did Lotus. Maybe with some links. :-) Thanks..

browny_amiga 05-26-2003 02:22 AM

worked, and then ... gone

Well, I don't know how I did it but now I am in the RH9 "wine does not work how to fix it" problem.
I cannot get it working, nomatter what I do.
How the hell to get Lotus Notes running without this crazy user32.dll crash. (without using diffs, I don't handle that yet)

So, sorry I don't have the solution, just thought so.

I am doing a trial with crossover office and that performs like a king so far. Really good product, also runs Photoshop, Office, and Quicken beside lotus notes (and these being the suppored apps, You can always try to install an unsuported app and it might work.)
It's about 60$, but I guess I might be worth the bucks, considering how long I have been trying.
Let's hope Version 1 of Wine will be out.

Cheers

I remember seeing a how-to on how to get Notes 5.011 running under wine, but as I wasn't planning on installing it, I didn't pay a lot of attention. However, I do recall seeing something about configuring wine for 640x480, installing Notes client, and then possibly setting wine back to normal resolution. IIRC, that was one big hang-up, was the desktop resolution.

I don't have the link handy, but when I get to work Tuesday, if no one else has figured it out by then, I will do some searching, and see if I can find the full how-to and links to it

Pcghost 05-27-2003 11:39 AM

I found instructions. But my configuration freezes at the creation of the address book. :-(

oswald21 05-27-2003 12:53 PM

I was using 20030408 version of Wine with Notes Client 5.0.12 for a while, but wasn't 100% stable enough for me to run at work.

I bought Crossover Office and it works fine. I'm happy at least I know that it's money that's going to a company that wants to take money away from Microsoft, so I considered the $54.95 a small donation to that cause....
