Lost password Linux Mint Petra 2.0 Cinnamon


I performed a drunken password change the other night, and can't remember what it was.
I have booted to grub, then hit escape, then hit e,
I then changed: ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7
to: rw init=/bin/bash
then hit F10 to reboot.
Now I am at the prompt at the end of script:
(none) / #
I typed my: passwd [I]my username[I]
and received:
Usage: passwd [options] [Login]
below this are a series of options.
What do I do know to reset password?

AHA! username is case sensitive (dumb me)
when username is correctly entered, the next promp is:
Enter new Unix password:

works fine.
