Lost audio and cel phone recognition after removing libraries

Trying to update my Fedora 20 system
Code:
yum update
while in root,
a message showed up indicating there were two similar libraries
Quote:
conflict between xz-libs-5.1.2-12alpha.fc20.x86_64 and xz-libs-5.1.2-12alpha.fc20.i686
and updating process ended.

So I then thought it possible to
Code:
yum remove xz-libs-5.1.2-12alpha.fc20.i686
for my computer runs 64 bits.

Removing process started and a message showed up informing some other dependent libraries would be removed.
Y accepted.
Since then I have to run my computer in rescue mode.
Otherwise it halts during or after boot.
Specifiacally, screen halts and shows a fuzzy pattern.
Reset is needed or nothing happens.

While in rescue mode, there is no audio.
And my mobile phone is not recognized as an external disk.

Have thought of reinstalling the system.
But I want to save that time, if possible

Any hint?

Code:
sudo yum history
to see what you erased, the reinstall (the x86_64 versions of) each package you mistakenly erased

Question Further review of the problem

Thank you, RockDoctor.
I need to say I think two separate issues are being mixed here.
First is this library erasure.
Second is a Fedora 20 system update which happened to show up right after erasing those libraries.

Regarding the erasure...
As super user I typed
Code:
yum history
A list of actions was shown. Relevant ones might be these
Quote:
ID | Registro de usuario | Día y hora | Acción(es) | Modific
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
53 | Alfredo ... <ahm> | 2014-10-06 11:36 | Erase | 23
52 | Alfredo ... <ahm> | 2014-10-06 11:21 | Erase | 1 EE
No files ore details specified.

Regarding the update...
I found another thread mentioning an update to Fedora 20 was producing halts in systems.
Exactly what happened to me.
I also found booting in rescue mode would disable audio and recognition of external drives.

So, maybe it is not fault of the rescue mode or even the erased libraries.

To get more details about transaction number 52:
Code:
sudo yum history info 52
. You might try interactively editing the linux line in grub.cfg at boot time to add the nomodeset parameter - here's an example from my grub.cfg file:
Code:
linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.18.0-0.rc0.git9.4.fc22.x86_64 root=/dev/sda11 ro rd.md=0 rd.lvm=0 rd.dm=0 SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 KEYTABLE=us rd.luks=0 LANG=en_US.UTF-8 nomodeset
If it boots (to a low-res display) you'll know its a video driver problem.

Fair warning - I will often break a Fedora installation doing things I probably should not do. Sometimes, my only option is to backup my home directory settings from /etc and do a complete reinstall.

On my system, eliminating dracut and plymouth files often leads to problems. I would try the following (no guarantees that it would work, but definitely what I'd try):
1. Ensure that all of the dracut and plymouth files erased in transaction 53 are installed (newer versions should be fine).
2. Run dracut to build a new initramfs file. I would not overwrite any existing initramfs file
3. Manually edit /boot/grub2/grub.cfg to add an entry to boot F20 using the newly-generated initramfs file. I would not overwrite the existing F20 entries.
4. Reboot F20, selecting the entry from the grub menu that uses the new initramfs file.
