loss packages


My gentoo server in the internet,install apache2&mysql&PHP,
from the outside I ping the server,it get more loss packages(about40%),
and i have checked for few days,last i have a try to use a shell to timely del
logs(/var/log/xferlog,/var/log/wtmp,/var/log/apache/access_log,error_log and other web log), after i do this ,the situation sound better.
I do not know why do this?
and now i ping from the outside,also get less loss packages(about 9%),
how to sovle it.
