Logging what Tar has done

Hello,

I have got a small backup script that tar's fils then burns them to cd

I wanted to log start time end time and what was backed up in the tar

Does tar support this?

I do this using the touch command to create empty files with the creation date and time being the time that I am interested in. For example:

touch /root/backups/start.daily.tar.backup

man touch
