how can i change localhost.localdomain

when i telnet 192.168.5.10 25 ( my mail server )

it always comes like localhost.localdomain

how can i change this

different distributions have different ways. first step would be (in slackware) change /etc/hostname from localhost to <yourhostname>. it is maybe in /etc/init.d/hostname or some other such thing for RH or debian. (whereis hostname).

I am using redhat advance server
file is /etc/hosts
what should i change inside the file
