loadkeys not working in red hat 9

I run loadkeys dvorak as root and this is what happens:

[root@localhost /]# loadkeys dvorak
Loading //lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/dvorak
input in flex scanner failed

Is anybody else having this problem (although most people use QWERTY )?

Use the GUI method:
Main Menu -> Preferences -> Peripherals -> Keyboards
Enable keyboard layouts
Select Dvorak as a Primary Layout

I hope that helps.

i have the same problem.

when i installed rh9, i put dvorak as default. when booting up, it says something like this:

loading keymap (dvorak) : [FAILED]

when i use X, all is fine and i can use dvorak, but when i switch to console, where keyboard is qwerty and i have to sit and think how to log in as root, to:

loadkeys dvorak.map

whitch works fine, but:

loadkeys dvorak

gives same error as above.
(Loading //lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/dvorak
input in flex scanner failed)

what must i do to fix that boot up [FAILED] message and use dvorak in console default?

thanks ahead

The RedHat 9 startup scripts look in the /usr/sysconfig/keyboard file to determine which keymap you want to use... without the previous post, it would never have occured to me to switch "dvorak" to "dvorak.map", but that's what I did and it works automatically now.

(Finally! I've been putting off fixing this for ages since X was configured correctly.)
