hey guys. i run a "live" distribution of DSL from a 128Mb usb pen drive. Works ok i guess. thing is, it boots off the drive and loads the OS into RAM yes? so what if i was to try and install an app? would it install until i reboot the pc? would i have to like re make the USB image or something to keep it upgraded or what?
Yes, all programs you "install" are only saved until a reboot, since the OS is running out of RAM and not actually saved to anything. To permanently save a program to the OS, you would need to rebuild the filesystem image.
Luckily DSL makes it pretty easy to automatically install programs from the Internet, so as long as you have an Internet connection on whatever machine is running it, you can get your needed software installed very quickly.
