Linux Voice Has Met Its Funding Goal--New Linux Magazine in the Offing

Linux Voice is a project by several persons who resigned from Linux Format Magazine to create a new Linux magazine. They were also the heart of the Tuxradar podcast, which is notable, not just for newsiness, but also for humor (or, in this case, humour).

They have met their fundraising target of 90,000 pounds sterling and are working on their first issue.

I enjoyed the Tuxradar podcast so much that I went back and listened to all the archived broadcasts when I discovered it (it's been resurrected as the LinuxVoice podcast), so I actually kicked in a contribution myself.

Thanks frankbell. I'm just listening now the first episode :)

You are most welcome. It is one of the few tech podcasts that I regularly listen to that has me laughing out loud at least once in almost every episode. Linux Outlaws is the other.

kooru 12-12-2013 12:30 AM

Yes I listen LinuxOutlaws too.
I don't know if you interested about BSD system, but I listen a great video podcast: http://www.bsdnow.tv/

I keep thinking about messing with BSD, but haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for the link; bookmarked.

Can't stand LinuxOutlaws. I listened to them for a time after LUGRADIO shutdown their podcast but quickly came to the conclusion that linuxoutlaws is just puerile rubbish. I dipped back in a few weeks ago to see if it was any better, around the time when Slackware 14.1 was released, and all they had to say about the Slackware release before moving onto the next topic was something like: "if you like your balls dragged over a cheese-grater then this is the distro for you", and that was it. Now, I'm the first one to admit that Slackware isn't for everyone, but a new release of the longest surviving distro deserves more respect/coverage than just dismissing it with a crude one-line putdown.

I like to keep an eye on the "FLOSS Weekly" podcast, but I tend to only listen to it when it's on a topic I'm particularly interested in.

Anyway, I agree, the Linuxvoice/tuxradar guys are very good and I listen regularly. I look forward to seeing what they do in future.

Regarding Linux Outlaws, I agree that Fab's prejudice against Slackware is silly and puerile.

But I still enjoy the podcast.

Mary at SMLR had a similar what-shall-I-call-it fear of Slackware, until she actually installed and reviewed it.

Nice :)

Hadn't listened to SMLR before. Quite enjoyed it. Thanks for the link.

Hopefully the magazine stays under the $15 I pay for Linux Format. I'm not a big podcast guy so the only Linux broadcast I watch/listen to is Linux Action Show but I'm going to have to give the Linux Outlaws a listen because of their opinion on Slackware.

Is it in the video? I don't see a per issue price only a donation perk of a year subscription for 39 pounds.

frankbell 12-14-2013 08:39 PM

I've never subscribed to a Linux Magazine. At one time, I used to subscribe to PC Magazine, so long ago that they had a "batch file of the month," well before they became all Windows all the time and then went on-line only.

I'm considering this one though, just to help them out.

That's great news to hear a Linux magazine getting started!
I hope I can get it in some electronic form.
Oh, and thank you so much for the podcast link, frankbell, I'm downloading them as I type.

The first issue of Linux Voice has been released. I downloaded my copy (subscription--*.pdf) today and do not think I will regret either donating to the project or subscribing to the magazine.

As with any magazine, there is stuff in it that does not interest me, but there's plenty that does.

Note that the authors have committed to release the contents of each issue under a CC-by-SA license after nine months.
