Linux version of Pegasus Mail

Hi,

I've been using various versions of SuSE LINUX on and off for about five years. I'm quite happy to accept the sometimes-limited availability of user-friendly applications; but when I look at the various e-mail clients which work with LINUX, I'm constantly disappointed.

What keeps me tied to the MS operating systems is ONLY this program, for which no LINUX version is available (yet)...

Once I became used to the way Pegasus Mail does things, nothing else would do... it's just perfect.

The owner, David Harris (NZ) has explained his reservations in making the source code freely available, and suggests that any suitably-qualified programmer who's willing to undertake the task could persuade him to enter a collaborative agreement for the writing of a LINUX version.

I've tried, with very limited (and frustratingly-tantalizing) success to get Pegasus Mail going under LINUX with WINE; but it's always got the better of me. The important buttons are always "greyed-out

Has this been discussed here, or anywhere else, to a meaningful degree? Is anybody working on such a scheme.. or am I wasting my time and yours?

I'm not a programmer, and I believe it would take too long for me to become proficient; or I would have a go myself. Is there any light at the end of this dark, Microsoft-induced tunnel?

Has anyone got Pegasus to work with LINUX?

Rob

Have you tried Thunderbird or Sylpheed?

I prefer webmail, hence squirrelmail.
