Question linux system based on a non-GCC compiler?

I was wondering whether it would be possible to build and maintain a system around the Intel C Compiler seeing as the machine code it produces is so ridiculously optimized that it's generally reported as outperforming GCC by upwards of 30%. Wouldn't a system with all the binaries built by this compiler on the whole be significantly more responsive?
