I am trying to find out more information about the best company to get Linux servers from. I didn't know if anyone had a preference. I have been trying to look at the major providers (HP, Dell, IBM, & Sun). I wanted to see if anyone has had a lot of success with any particular company.
i just build my own. i know HP has its own vs of *nix as does IBM. last time i tried to get Dell to sell me a server box WITHOUT an OS they refused so i refused to buy.
I haven't tried to put Linux on an HP yet, but I have been running into a large number of issues with the older Compaq Proliant servers. If HP servers are anything like Compaq, then it might be problematic. It is possible in most cases, but it's difficult. Just my $0.02.
I have Linux running on Dell 6650's 1750's and 1650's with out any isue. I also have several hp DL-380's and have never had any problems with them either. I also have SUSE, Debian and Red Hat running on a IBM z800 without any issues. We have some older IBM's don't remember the models but they are fine. Dell, HP and IBM have been shipping linux on their servers for ahwile now.
