masand is right. Linux is just better at that.
One thing I've noticed though:
A while ago I was dualbooting Slack 9.1 and Win2K. The Linux portion was as fast as it could be, but When I had to boot into win, everything was slow as heck.
Sad as I was, I had to remove the linux bit, because there were some programs I have to run, that I then couldn't get running.
After removing the linux and formatting that partition to FAT32, windows was working as fast as usual again.
Don't know why that happened, but it did on two occations.
