Linux Online Server

Hi

I'd like a pracatical education on using a server. So I'd like to configure one and use it on my laptop. Currently I'm using FedoraCore3, and I'm about to install '4' so information on either version is good.

If anyone is aware of the above or similar, plus a tutorial on how I can get my own server going, please let me know.

information on "a server"? absolutely any system that will accept incoming connections and provide a reponse of some sort could potentially be deemed to be a server. you need to be a lot more specific in terms of what you want to do.

To be honest, with such a vague question like that, i'd really have to wonder about your motivations in the first place.

Wow Mr. Kewpie you're more freindly on most days.

He is right though please be more specific. What kind of server? A web server for web pages? A print server for your home network? What is it that you want your laptop to do for you?

Ha!

Perhaps I can do better with this clarification:

I would create and host my own informational webpage/site.

My laptop is the LC2500 Series Laptops - 17" Screens

UNIX Workstation Replacement. Exactly like this last photo on this page, http://www.linuxcertified.com/linux_laptops.html. Mine has some memory and speed upgrades though.

Thanks for your comments.

Ok now we are getting somewhere. The software most Linux user work with is apache web server software. Most distro's install it as a default.
So step on for you is probabley to get the apache web server installed and configured on your laptop. Right? Right!

Run a google search for "Fedora Core" apache tutorial and you will get a great starting point.
here is the search I already ran it.
