Linux on Power Mac 6500

Hi people,

I have become a Linux convert in the last 6 month and now cannot get enough of it. I have already converted two of my machines to solely run Linux and now cannot find machines fast enough to keep up with my need.

I have however been given a Power Mac 6500 which I think I may be able to use. I have done some research and I think I will be able to use the yellowdoglinux distro on this machine without too much hastle.

Do any of you chaps have any info or useful advice you could impart before I embark on this project. Particularly on the following, as I have absolutely no experience on Macs.

1) Is the yellowdoglinux my best option?

2) Will I be able to fit an Ethernet card to the Mac so I can network it.

3)Due to lack of lab space I use tightvnc to remotely control all my machines, is this going to be a problem.

4)Any other major differences that I should be aware of that have not even crossed my mind.

Cheers in advance,

Well, having never had the pleasure of owning a mac (or the money, for that matter), I can't give you any advice on 1 and 4.

2: I would have thought so, but as said above, I'm not sure. This shouldn't be a problem. What kind of ethernet card are you intending to plug in to it? I assume you're talking about a PCMCIA card, in which case as long as you're not scared of editing text files, possibly having to load kernel modules (or you could recompile them in, but that's a bit trickier), it should be okay

3: Once again, I wouldn't have thought that this would be a problem. You can download the source of tightvnc, and this can be built, so assuming you have a C compiler installed, it should build on any machine.

HTH
