linux on laptops

id like to hear if anyone has had a good experience with linux on a particular model laptop.

i have a friend who can get me various kinds but i have heard that laptops that work well with linux are few and far between, or am i just listening to the wrong circles?

Man...I had a really tough time with my Tosiba 2530. Went through 3 distros (rh, suse, freeBSD) trying to get a good install. Finally dl'd a copy of Mandrake81 and it booted right up and havent had any problems yet...

Laptops seem to be much more touchy than workstations. Mostly due to their BIOS.
