Linux Media Center Edition

Is there such a thing?

I'm not much into movies, I want it to be mainly centered around music because that is what the box I am going to install this on will be used for. My biggest problem is a) I have no internet b) I can't stand konqueror or nautilus for my songs. Both of them take forever and again to load a list of 5000 songs (which is a 1/4 of my CD collection) so I am kind of leery about using linux for it. I really want to but if I continue ripping I am going to end up with a 5 minute load to look at the songs.

I guess an alternative to konqueror would work, but I really like the 'list' mode of windows explorer. Its a side by side list of things and you scroll horizontally. In windows, even with 5000 songs, it loads instantaly.

GNUmp3d is what i use, it acts as a music server and if you sort your music well then you can use it to find then play the files you want. And then you can hook it up to any other comps on an Ethernet link too! I use XMMS to play music, still. Haven't found another app that does the job quite to my liking other than XMMS, but you prob know what you like if you have LFS!

Yeah thats the lovely thing about LFS :) None of the crappy stuff that every other distro thinks you want.

I am going to definitely try GNUmp3d though, I have a few computers on a network and it'd be nice to have that :) THanks for hte suggestion :)
