linux key short-cuts (hotkeys)


hi all,
dose anybody know how to define a hot key in linux??
i am using RH7.2 with KDE desktop.
and want to invoke my own java app with help of a keystoke say f1 or any fun key.
how can i do that?
do i need to install something called hotkeys.XXX.rpm or xbinkeys for that?
or is there any other simpler way?
plz help me on this.......

The only KDE way I know of is to create
a K-Menu entry for it ... then you're offered
to add a keyboard-shortcut for it. However,
you may have to disable KDE wide settings
from ControlCenter, then.
