mostly news about windoze.
Those aren't magazines anymore. Those are collections of advertisements with a couple of articles and editorials thrown in to make it look somewhat like a magazine. CS used to have articles about Linux; in fact the reason most people (I think) bought CS was for the ads. Nowadays, they're indistinguishable from PC MAg so what's the point. PC Mag hasn't done much more than (seemingly) reword Windows-related SW and HW press releases since their (in)famous `Is UNIX Dead?' issue about ten years ago and hasn't really been a very good magazine since the days when DOS was king (IMHO and even then it was a distant second to PC Tech Journal). Both are mere shadows of their former selves. I still pick up an occasional copy of CS but it's mainly for the ads for peripherals, etc. and, even then, only when I'm in the market for something and need a quick source of what's out there.
If you're looking for Linux information in print you have to look for Linux Magazine, Linux Journal, or SysAdmin (not Linux-specific but much of the information in SA is transferrable). There is/was a British Linux magazine (forgot the name) that I could sometimes find in larger bookstores that usually had some good technical information but I found the writing style a bit much.

Well, sometimes you just want land in a comfy chair, put your feet up, and do some reading over a beer. Besides, after a while the Post-Its and notes I make in the margins of articles tend to make my screen hard to read. :-)
I just read latest Computerworld magazine my boss gets. Quite a few articles about switching your entire network over to Linux, ones on Linux training & certs, etc... Quite a positive view on Linux in pretty much every article.
I think the obvious reason that these mainstream magazines don't deal much with Linux is because the majority of IT teams use windows for everything. The magazine's are simply catering to their market and you can't blame them for doing that.
I too pick up the occasional mainstream magazine and usually get a good laugh out of it. I really like the parts that have titles like "Hacking the Registry". These registry articles usually come with a warning that says 'Changing registry settings should only be done by advanced users'.
Registry? Whats a registry?

Try www.linuxformat.co.uk - the mag (Linux Format) is available outside the UK and they also cover LUGS in the UK (and, increasingly, around the world). It's the mag that got me into Linux.

I'm a regular computer shopper reader - could do without the ads but the editorial's usually pretty good. There is a regular linux news slot and linux column every month, plus the occasional extra feature.
I was v. amused last month by a 3 page article last month tho - what to do when windows XP crashes. 3 pages? I could fix it in 2 words!
