UNIX. on the other hand, covers the kernel, and the utilities. You can only pass the qualifications by having all features of UNIX, and the registration fees. Linux, BSD, Windows, and even MacOS X cannot pass even the basics. The best that Linux BSD, and MacOS X can claim is UNIX LIKE.

untrue, MacOS is UNIX.

Linux is not certified by Unix? It´s not a family with Unix? Why AIX and MAC os are certificated and Linux not?

GNU/Linux is not UNIX and it is moving away from the “UNIX way” more and more. It’s only partially POSIX-compatible and the GNU itself says about it pretty clearly (as an acronym). I hate it about Linux. I wish it was the real UNIX but it’s not.

OS X 10.8 is UNIX certified....

But none of the more recent releases are. (http://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/register/).

If they were, it would properly have said "or later" as shown by the IBM and HP entries.

It is all up to the money. If Apple pays the fees, then the more recent releases would be.

But since they didn't maintain the certification, no, OS X 10.<anything but 8> are not certified UNIX.

OS X 10.8 (a.k.a. Mountain Lion) is the latest version.
