Linux Installation

Hi All,
I am quite new to Linux. I have been reading books on it. I have purchased an installation CD for linux red hat 8.0 but unfortunately, I have been unable to install it. i currently use a compaq pressario laptop with mindows Me running on it. When I inserted the disc, I do not get any prompt at all. Do i need another computer to be able to run Linux? Thanks.

if you didnt get any prompt you need to setup the computer's bios to boot up the cdrom instead of the hard disk first. there should be some info when you start up the computer about getting into the bios. I press <del> on my computer don't know about compaqs.

f1 gets me into my bios

Pres it at start up when you get there they may have a list of things from, floppy, hard drive, cdrom, 2cdrom, then make sure the disc is in the cd rom and select cd as the first loader.

I recently just installed Linux RH8 too.
