what are some hardware types that linux supports

Sorry, but that is too general of a question. What are you trying to do? Are you looking to purchase a specific machine and want to know if linux will run on it? Or are you looking to replace a specific component?

For specific components, it can be helpful to search a hardware vendor like Newegg and then filter the comments for "linux".

For architectures, Debian supports the most and has a list on their website. But linux runs on tons of devices and you don't even know it.
